Review by Avie Rushina

The album Violin Concertos by Britten Korngold, Vilde Frang, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, James Gaffigan is a masterpiece that showcases the talents of some of the most renowned musicians in the classical music world. The album features two of the most iconic violin concertos of the 20th century, performed with great passion and precision by Vilde Frang and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony.

The first concerto on the album is the Violin Concerto by Benjamin Britten, which was composed in 1939 and is one of the most challenging works in the violin repertoire. Vilde Frang's performance is nothing short of breathtaking, as she brings out the emotional depth and virtuosic demands of the piece with ease. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony, under the direction of James Gaffigan, provides a rich and dynamic accompaniment that perfectly complements Frang's playing.

The second concerto on the album is the Violin Concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, which was composed in 1945 and is a lush and romantic work that draws heavily on film music. Once again, Frang's playing is outstanding, as she captures the soaring melodies and lush harmonies of the piece with great sensitivity and nuance. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony and Gaffigan once again provide a powerful and emotive accompaniment that perfectly complements Frang's playing.

About Britten Korngold, Vilde Frang, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, James Gaffigan

British composer, conductor, and pianist. Born: November 22, 1913, in Lowestoft, UK - died: December 04, 1976, in Aldeburgh, UK. He showed talent from an early age, and first came to public attention with the a cappella choral work A Boy Was Born in 1934. With the premiere of his opera Peter Grimes in 1945, he leapt to international fame. For the next fifteen years he devoted much of his compositional attention to writing operas, establishing him as one of the leading 20th century figures in this genre. Britten's interests as a composer were wide-ranging; he produced important music in such varied genres as orchestral, choral, solo vocal (much of it written for the tenor Peter Pears), chamber and instrumental, as well as film music. He also took a great interest in writing music for children and amateur performers, and was a fine pianist and conductor. One of Britten's most important works, The War Requiem was completed 20 December 1961, and first performed 30 May 1962. Britten received many prizes and honors, including becoming a Companion of Honour in 1952, and a member of the Order of Merit in 1965.
