About SelfMedication

Self-Medication is an electronic band from Toronto, Canada with John W. Duncan as the primary composer, musician, and performer. Self-Medication formed some time in 2006 with friends John and Chris creating ethereal indie electronic and post-rock songs using a wide array of acoustic and electric instrumentation, and experimenting heavily with the dynamic tweaking of pedals and digital effects units. As time progressed, John took on the role of sole musician, with Chris contributing video elements. The music has moved into faster and more vibrant forms of glitch, drum and bass, and experimental genres, although the original styles of trip-hop, chillwave, and electronic post-rock are still present. John trained in music all through high school, and continued studying music while attending university, such that a strong musical background is evident in the music of Self-Medication. He goes far beyond the standard themes of most mainstream electronic genres, often delving into obscure time signatures, and creating a strong sense of melody and artistry within the songs.
